Red Excitement has returned to racing in typically smart form this time but will have to produce something extra on Friday, after being allocated a race-high weight of 59kgs for his run in the Gosford Cup.

Resuming for sixth in the Filante Handicap (1400m) on October 22nd, the Excites gelding returned to winning form in the Ashbury Handicap (1550m) a fortnight later before fighting on well for third amongst talented company in the November Handicap (1400m) at Rosehill.

Having again finished third in the Group 3 Festival Stakes (1500m) on December 3rd, Red Excitement (barrier 5) will carry winning form into the Gosford Cup after taking out the Group 3 Summer Cup (2000m) last time out on Boxing Day.

Godolphin runner Malice is weighted well and has drawn ideally into the Gosford Gold Cup field on the rails.

Malice returned to the races for a smart third in the Listed Ladies Day Cup (1400m) at Hawkesbury on November 3rd, before running a credible fifth in the November Handicap, despite a luckless run in transit.

Returning to winning form in the Listed ATC Cup (2000m) on December 3rd, the Teofilo gelding tired late to finish fourth in the Summer Cup last time out but will relish a lighter weight than several of his Gosford Cup rivals.

Undoubtedly the biggest danger confirmed in the 2017 Gosford Cup field is Sense Of Occasion (barrier 2), who stormed home to win the Group 2 Villiers Stakes (1600m) at Randwick first-up in December.

A standout for Kris Lees during the Spring Carnival, Sense Of Occasion ran fourth in the Canterbury RSL Spring Preview (1400m) first-up before taking out the Listed Premier’s Cup (1900m).

Progressing to fourth in the Group 3 Newcastle Cup (2200m) at his home circuit on September 16th, the Street Sense gelding ran fifth in the Group 1 The Metropolitan (2400m) before ending his campaign fourth in the Listed Tattersall’s Club Cup (2400m).

Destiny’s Kiss (barrier 4), Foreign Prince (barrier 6) and Loophole (barrier 3) complete the 2017 Gosford Cup field.
