Red Excitement remains a clear $2.50 favourite in 2017 Gosford Cup betting markets with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au, ahead of Sense Of Occasion ($3.50) and Godolphin horse Malice ($5.50).

Will Red Excitement justify his outright favouritism and win the 2017 Gosford Cup, or will one of his rivals post an upset?

Sense Of Occasion ($3.50)

Sense Of Occasion posted a career-best success last time out and will only relish a step up in distance and step back in class for the Gosford Cup. Posting an impressive career total of seven wins and six minors through twenty-nine starts to date, the Street Sense gelding was rated a $31 outsider in the Group 2 Villiers Stakes (1600m) first-up on December 17th but produced a big turn of foot late to overcome a talented field. Damien Oliver takes the ride on Sense Of Occasion from the ideal barrier 2.

Red Excitement ($2.50)

Red Excitement has returned to racing in particularly slick form this time and will be right in the finish of the 2017 Gosford Cup. Returning to winning form in the Ashbury Handicap (1550m) on November 5th, the Excites gelding placed third in each of the November Handicap (1400m) and Group 3 Festival Stakes (1500m) before taken out the Group 3 Summer Cup (2000m) most recently on Boxing Day. Red Excitement will have to cope with a race-high 59kgs and will leave from an outside draw.

Malice ($5)

Malice is a strong and consistent performer and arguably offers punters the best value for money at current $5 Gosford Cup odds. Placing third in the Listed Ladies Day Cup (1400m) and fifth in the November Handicap upon resumed this time, the son of Teofilo returned to winning form with a dominant performance in the Listed ATC Cup (2000m) on December 3rd, but tired late to finish fourth in the Summer Cup last time out. Malice’s class is sure to count for plenty in the small Gosford Cup field.
